Shaw Road: 23rd to Manorwood Drive Project

**IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION**
In a few months Shaw Road will be closed from Manorwood Dr. to 23rd for some much needed improvements. The project will be to widen this section of Shaw Road in order to add left turn lanes, a sidewalk on the west wide of the road, and include a mixed use trail on the east side of the road.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING PSE AND TREE MAINTENANCE WORK:

Representatives from Puget Sound Energy are visiting residences along the Shaw Road corridor to inform them of needed tree maintenance work. If no one is home when they stop by, they are leaving door hangers explaining the reason for their visit. PSE has evaluated trees along the corridor to determine which ones must be removed in the interest of avoiding outages that can result when vegetation grows into or too near power lines. The work will be done by an experienced crew from Asplundh Construction at no cost to any property owner. The crew will clean up the brush and leave any usable wood on the affected property

March 2017 Update:
Franchise utilities have started to mobilize to relocate their equipment for the project. We City has all parcels needed to do the work, with the exception of the Crystal Ridge Sign Relocation. All departments have reviewed the 90% plans. There is now an adjusted timeframe for this project going out to bid. The project will be going out to bid April 2017.

January 2017 Update:
There is nothing new at this time. Please check back next month for additional new updates.

On August 11, 2015, the Puyallup City Council authorized moving forward with this project as designed according to Option A (shared use path). In the interest of saving money and minimizing the time needed for project completion, the affected portions of Shaw Road will be closed during construction.

This project involves the reconstruction of Shaw Road from 23rd Avenue SE to Manorwood Drive. This 4,000-foot long section of Shaw Road will be improved with assistance from a grant provided by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board.

Preliminary Work

Preliminary design work included the development of design alternatives for which community input was sought. The design alternatives included 2 lanes of through traffic with a turning lane or landscaped median. Details differed on the design of the sidewalk and bicycle facilities.

Construction is planned to begin in 2016 and be completed in 2017. Information about the project was presented at an open house in June, and an online survey was made available.
